Golf, the Estero River and Coconut Point: what is it like to live in Estero?
Estero is a village in southern Lee County, incorporated at the end of 2014, between Fort Myers to the north and Naples to the south. The spring-fed Estero River runs through it to Estero Bay. Golf communities, river paddles and the shops at Coconut Point give you different ways to spend the day. Southwest Florida International Airport is less than 5 miles north, and Florida Gulf Coast University borders the village.

A village since 2014
Estero was an unincorporated community at the 2010 census and incorporated as a village on December 31, 2014. It counted 36,939 residents in 2020.

The river at the heart of the village
The spring-fed Estero River flows to Estero Bay, and the village sits beside the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve, the first aquatic nature preserve established in Florida. Along the river, German homesteader Gustave Damkohler began planting mulberry trees in 1882.

Two state parks, one only by boat
The Koreshan State Historic Site, on US-41 at Corkscrew Road, preserves the settlement of the Koreshan Unity, which began after homesteader Gustave Damkohler donated 300 acres along the river in 1894. Mound Key Archaeological State Park, out in Estero Bay, is only attainable by boat, canoe or kayak.

Shopping, hockey and a university next door
Coconut Point, which opened on November 10, 2006, is a shopping center in Estero with more than 120 stores. Hertz Arena hosts the Florida Everblades hockey team, and Florida Gulf Coast University borders the village limits.

Its days run on golf, with 11 courses inside the village borders, on paddles down the spring-fed Estero River from Koreshan State Park toward Estero Bay, and on evenings at Coconut Point. Southwest Florida International Airport is north of the village, and Florida Gulf Coast University borders the village.
