Bonita Springs is a city in southern Lee County that sits on both Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The beach side is Bonita Beach, on Little Hickory Island, a barrier island you can drive to. Central Bonita, the historic downtown, sits on the Imperial River, which flows through it into Estero Bay. The city is known for its beaches and its golf courses, and Naples and Collier County begin just to the south.

The Imperial River was once Surveyor's Creek
The town began as Survey, a camp on what was then called Surveyor's Creek. By 1912 the names had changed to Bonita Springs and the Imperial River, which still runs through downtown to Estero Bay.
